The benefits of a using a waste oil heater — such as the REZNOR heater — are that it converts your used oil into free heat, eliminates the cost and liability of disposing of the oil, and reduces your overall heating costs. But not all heaters are created equal.
THE PROBLEM WITH OTHER BRANDS
Other waste oil heaters succeed in holding the oil temperature and pressure constant, but fail to control the flow rate. In fact, the rate can vary by more than 100%, depending on the viscosity of the oil! The viscosity changes continually as different oils are poured into the tank. The oils tend to layer in the tank, with the higher viscosities settling at the bottom ,and lighter oils rising to the top. If the furnace is not continually adjusted, the unit overfires, burning out the combustion chamber and shortening lifespan, or underfires, producing insufficient heat.
